ANOTHER ALL NEW “ELFIN” STORY
The idea of this website was crystalised when a friend overseas said they would like to see the restoration progress on the Elfin from time to time. Let us begin.
Readers of this web site will see the very strong preference I have had for Italian cars over the last 30 years but somewhere in the back of the grey matter an idea was always lurking that it would be nice to own an Australiancar.
The choices are of course very limited outside the Australian built models of the major manufacturers, but then by chance I happened to stumble on an Elfin… and not just any Elfin but a Mono….one of early racing cars built by the prolific Australian company in Adelaide to the design of the famous Garrie Cooper. Like many old car stories it was a case of being in the right place at the right time. The story started when…
In early January 2007,
with the trailer behind
the trusty Alfa, the Elfin
Mono was towed home.

Bordertown
approximately 300km from
Adelaide … on ‘our’ way
home to Melbourne……
SOMETHING SPECIAL
The Alfa Romeo Guilietta SS was derived from Bertone’s early experiments into aerodynamics using the Alfa 1900 floor pan to build the famous BAT cars. Ultimately Alfa Romeo expressed interest in racing and producing a
variant of these which lead to the 1300 Giulietta Sprint Speciale. The car was not successful in racing but they went into limited production and later had the engine size increased to 1600cc as the Giulia SS. Read full story
